Originally from the Midlands, Colin Taylor studied dentistry at Sheffield University, qualifying in 1979 with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery Degree. After a period of time working around various practices in Birmingham, he became a partner in College Street Dental in 1983, growing the practice from 3 to 4 dentists in 1989. Following a period of part time study he was awarded the post graduate diploma in dental studies in 1996 from Bristol University.
Married to Jill, with 2 grown up sons and a daughter, Colin has been happily settled here in Somerset since 1983. Being well versed in the skills necessary to be a general dental practitioner, he particularly enjoys treating the very young and the very old, with all the problems particular to those age groups. In his spare time, he skis once a year, plays golf as much as he can get away with, and the rest of his time is spent gardening or on his half allotment. He enjoys a good chat and likes to get to know his patients.

George Slabbert qualified at the University of Witwatersrand in 1984. Following qualification and has worked in general practice until he joined College Street Dental in 1988 as a partner. He completed his postgraduate DPDs at Bristol University in 1997. While he was South West coordinator for the Anaphylaxis Campaign, with his interest in allergies, he obtained his Part 1 in the Mechanisms and Management of Allergic Disease at Southampton University in 2001.
Outside interests are long distance road cycling, dinghy sailing and trying to complete walking the South West coastal path. He is also involved with helping his wife look after a number of pet sheep and lambs. George has an interest in all aspects of general dentistry with emphasis on crown and bridgework. Also interested in providing quality dentures. He attends numerous postgraduate courses to keep up to date with the latest techniques in dentistry.

Tinashe graduated from the University of Sheffield in 2013 and is dedicated to providing high quality general dental care. After spending some time working in Sheffield and Newcastle he later moved to Australia to undertake work as a Private dentist in 2015.
Tinashe has a special interest in cosmetic dentistry, including facial aesthetics. He is committed to furthering his knowledge and is currently undertaking postgraduate Restorative and short-term Orthodontics training. Outside of work Tinashe is an avid writer of children’s books and enjoys keeping fit

College Street Dental & Implant Clinic are very pleased to welcome Dominic Sinson to our experienced team. Dominic qualified with honours from Cardiff University in 2010 and has spent the last eight years gaining experience and an excellent reputation.
Dominic has a keen interest in Periodontics as in 2014 he began training as a specialist in Periodontics. Dominic is a member of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh for Periodontics and is also a member of the British Society of Periodontology.
Dominic also has in interest in Dental Implants and Oral Surgery.

Carla is new to the team and has a wealth of experience in carrying out oral surgery for a range of patients. Carla currently teaches at Bristol Dental School and has been training in the specialty of Oral Surgery for the last 7 years. Carla has a calm and gentle approach and can offer treatment under local anaesthetic as well as sedation. She looks forward to offering her services to patients.

Nuno Carvalho is from Lisbon, Portugal, where he graduated in dentistry in 2003 before coming to England. He moved to Bristol in 2008 where he worked for 11 years in a mixed NHS/Private practice before joining us.
He decided to move to private dentistry to be able to spend more time with his patients, bringing a more relaxed atmosphere and a comfortable journey to both patient and professional.
Nuno has an interest in Fixed Prosthodontics (crown and bridgework) and has a Postgraduation in Aesthetic and Restorative Dentistry taken in 2006.
Nuno enjoys spending time with his family, a good surf session and riding his classic motorcycle.

André Philip Pettemerides (Philip) graduated from The University of Sheffield in 1976. He has since gained enormous experience in the fields of restorative, aesthetic and implant dentistry. In particular he is recognised for his work on immediate loading of implants, aesthetic cases, the use of computer guided placement, Nobel Guide and the All on 4 Concept.
He has achieved the Certificate, the Advanced Certificate and the Diploma in Implant dentistry with distinction from The Eastman Dental Institute at the University of London. He has continued his postgraduate education in France, Malta, Portugal, Austria, Switzerland and the USA.
Philip is an Executive Committee member of The British Academy of Aesthetic Dentistry, an affiliate member of The European Academy of Aesthetic Dentistry, a member of the Association of Dental Implantologists and in addition to his clinical work Philip has taken a keen academic interest and has had several articles published in scientific journals including the British and European Journals of Orthodontics.
Philip currently runs implant courses at Edgar Buildings Dental Care and is a senior lecturer at the Portman Academy. He has lectured on dental implants at home and in Sweden and has lectured for Nobel Biocare including the World Conference 2007 in Las Vegas and as the lead presenter for The Nobel Biocare Procera Roadshow.
Philip has an holistic approach to dentistry, always with the patient's best interest at heart. He attends regular postgraduate conferences to keep abreast of the latest innovations in all aspects of dentistry and when possible to introduce them to Edgar Buildings Dental Care.
Philip has also taken on an additional new role as Regional Lead Clinician for Portman Dental Care in Wales and the South West of England.
Deputy Practice Manager
Chelsea has been working at College St for a year and a half, after being a patient here for 25 years. Chelsea has 6 years experience in Reception/Administration roles. She lives locally with her husband, son and dog.
Chelsea is currently studying an English Literature and Language Honours Degree so a lot of her spare time is taken up studying. If she is not studying she enjoys reading, cooking and going on long walks with her family.

Emma after qualifying in 1993 as a dental nurse and has spent many years adding to her professional qualifications. She has worked in sedation and with people who have special needs and paediatric patients at Weston General Hospital. She then retrained as a Dental Hygienist at Bristol Dental Hospital. She works hard to promote oral health prevention and enjoy all aspects of the job, working in several practices in and around the Bristol area.
Outside of works she is an active member of the Burnham and Highbridge Brass Band as first tenor horn which takes up a lot of spare time. She is married with 2 children and enjoys camping, swimming and cycling.

Margarita qualified as a Dental Hygienist with distinction from Regency Dental Hygiene Academy in Toronto, ON, Canada. She has published a research based article in The Canadian Journal of Dental Hygiene in 2012. As a conscientious and highly motivated Dental Hygienist, Margarita takes pride in using her professional training and expertise to help her patients improve and retain their long-term dental and oral health.
Margarita enjoys photography and film-making, spending time with her family, country walks and genealogy.

Jo has been nursing since 18, getting into dental nursing through her sister, who is also a dental nurse. Jo worked in Weston for 6 years before moving to College Street, and has been here since December 2015. Jo has completed further courses as a dental nurse, including the ability to take impressions on patients, apply fluoride and to complete plaque scoring. Jo has also recently completed the Oral Health Education course. In her own time, being an avid Newcastle United supporter, she like to travel and attend football matches on the weekends but more recently Jo is tied up being pregnant, with her baby boy due in November. Jo is to depart temporarily for maternity leave in October 2019.

Janet has been nursing at College Street for over 22 years and is now seeing the third generation of some families. She said she likes interacting with the patients, working with such a great team and that she has made some great friendships over time with work colleagues.
Janet has two grown up daughters, and two grandchildren who she loves spending her spare time with as well as attending the theatre and walking her two dogs.

Carol started working as a Dental Nurse when she was 16 and joined the team at College Street in 1992. Carol works part time but provides cover to the nursing team as well as assisting with implants which she really enjoys.
Carol says she loves working at College Street and hopes to continue to do so for many years to come. In her spare time she enjoys cryptic crosswords and painting, as well travels with her husband on his motorbike around Europe.
Trainee Dental Nurse
Lucy joined our practice in March of this year and is currently training as a Dental Nurse working alongside Dr Slabbert, who she has seen as his patient for 25 years. Before joining our team Lucy worked as a Teaching Assistant in a behavioural school in North Petherton, where she supported young boys with Autism and behavioural problems. She found a passion to work with children after returning home from America, working in a rustic summer camp in Maryland, called Echo Hill. Lucy worked at the camp for 12 weeks as a camp counsellor and was lucky enough to experience many new things such as sailing, archery, water skiing and much more.
Jeanette has been a receptionist at College Street Dental since June 2007, before that I spent 25 years working as a customer service adviser.
I am married with two grown up children and one dog. My hobbies include reading, walking the dog and spending time with family and friends.

Charlotte joined Portman in February 2018 as a dental nurse/receptionist. She has been working as a dental nurse for 7 years, previously working at the Dental Access Centre dealing with phobic patients. She has previous experience of assisting with Relative Analgesia (RA) sedation and general anaesthetic. In her spare time, Charlotte enjoys spending time with her young family and is currently studying with a view of progressing into management.
